The Knights stadium that serves as the home of the Charlotte Knights was opened in 1990. It has a capacity to contain 10,002 people and is located in Fort Mill, South Carolina which is across the state line from Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Charlotte Knights is an International League’s Baseball club and is an AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. In the late 1990’s, the Knights stadium was known as the Knights Castle but was later renamed. Charlotteans still call the stadium the Castle, which was built according to the specifications cited by the Major League baseball if Charlotte could land a Major League team.
There is a painted water tower near the stadium that bears resemblance to a baseball on a tee. This water tower can be seen from Interstate 77, which is used to reach the stadium. The Gold Hill Road or Exit 88 connects the expressway with the Knights stadium.
Since the Knights and York County agreed on a four year lease for the team to play at the Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, South Carolina, therefore, any plans to build the Knights a new stadium in the Uptown Charlotte are presently in abeyance. As stated by the agreement, new fan related upgrades will be added to the facility.
But the problem with the Knights getting an Uptown Stadium is that what would be done with the current stadium. Some are suggesting that this stadium should be used for football and soccer as the stadium is not that old.
