The Clark Griffith Park stadium was built in 1940, with a capacity of 5,000 people, the stadium was situated at 400 Magnolia Avenue in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was the home ground for the Charlotte Hornets from 1940 to 1971 and then later to the Charlotte Orioles from 1976 to 1985. Jim Crockett, Jr., a wrestling promoter, purchased the Asheville Orioles in 1976. The park was renamed to Jim Crockett, Sr. Memorial Park, to honour the buyer.
